Event Time:
5:30 pm
Event Location:
THE COUNTY CLUB
Local historian David Rose will lead a walk around the town centre pointing out buildings and features of interest. Starting and finishing at the County Club, you will see where, in the High Street, there were once fine coaching inns for travellers and plenty of pubs that were full to the brim on market days. Look up above street level and there are some unusual features many people never notice. The walk will continue to the Town Bridge and along Quarry Street passing the historic St Mary’s Church, then into the Castle Grounds for details of the ruined keep’s dark past. Plus, how this Victorian pleasure ground was established as well as remembering some of those who are commemorated on the war memorial.
